Completed Diversion, Lawyer Messed Up

Card image cap

So, I got in a fight. I won’t go into detail.. but she pressed charges, of course.

I found a very expensive lawyer and paid in full upfront. My lawyer was AMAZING and really got me out of a pickle by putting me on a diversion program. I mean, I haven’t even had a speeding ticket. Anyway, I completed my anger management and submitted my certificate to him ASAP.

A year and a half later, I received an email front the paralegal saying my diversion motion was denied and my court date was set a few days later… I live across the country… anyway, I was able to show up virtually. JUST TO FIND OUT MY LAWYER KEPT EXTENDING THE CASE AND FAILED TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION. He’s the ones who didn’t submit anything because he was “busy”. Even the judge was confused why he didn’t submit. Anyway, the judge terminated my diversion and I have a new progress hearing in a month.

So, my fellow Reddit users.. how screwed am I? Can I get convicted for something my lawyer messed up? I mean, I’m sure I can but has anyone been put in this position?
