Dallas — Accidentally Released After Signing Prison Time? No Warrants Showing & Public Defender Isn’t Responding. What Am I Supposed To Do?
I was recently sentenced and **signed paperwork accepting/receiving a prison sentence**. However, I was unexpectedly released instead of being taken into custody/transported to prison.
I have **not received any explanation for the release**, and I have tried contacting my public defender but **haven’t received a response**.
I’ve also searched the available warrant information and **nothing is showing as an active warrant** for me.
I’m obviously confused and concerned because I don’t want to make the situation worse by doing the wrong thing. I don’t know whether:
The release was an administrative mistake
There is some delay in processing the sentence
I am supposed to report somewhere
The sentence has somehow been changed or modified
A warrant could be issued later
Or whether I’m legally allowed to remain out of custody until I’m contacted
I’m **not trying to avoid my sentence**. I want to handle this correctly and make sure I don’t accidentally commit another violation by failing to do something I’m legally required to do.
