Daughter Moved Back Home With Me.

Location: Texas and California

To start off, my daughter for the last 9 months has lived in Texas with her mom (F28) while I’m stationed in California. I (M29) have full custody due to a previous situation that happened in 2021. After the end of last school year my daughter came and asked if she could stay with her mom next school year and I explained to her about what she may not have while living there but she elected to still go. I was hesitant but alas I sent her.

Throughout the school year I realized that things were changing a bit with my daughter but I associated it to her maturing. Additionally, she was doing great in school (honor roll; student of the month, etc.) and little to no behavioral issues had came up at school. But she had been getting increasingly argumentative with her mother. I thought that might’ve been just teen/preteen drama that happens in life between mother and daughter.

Moving onto last week.

I was called by my daughter’s stepfather and he had informed me that my daughter’s mother had gotten sent to jail for what appeared to be domestic violence. Later found out that actually it was assault with a deadly weapon. He told me to be expecting a call from Texas CPS to be interviewed about whatever it is they needed to talk about. I made the quick decision to fly my daughter the very next back home to me in California. I unenrolled her from her school in Texas and immediately enrolled her in school here.

Now to reason for the post:

Did I do something wrong or rather do I have something to worry about as I didn’t inform Texas CPS of the decision I made or the location of my daughter? I have never been as nervous as I am now about what could come of this. I felt I made the only decision I could in protection of my child. At this point, idk what to do. Do I call them? Do I involve California CPS? What can I do?
