Dealer Seems To Have Closed And Left Me With A Vehicle
Location: California So I purchased a vehicle in early January and the dealer never informed me of any title issues. Fast forward to mid march and I’m reaching out to him because my temporary tags were half way to expired (90 days after date of sale). He then proceeds to inform me that he didn’t have the title. As it turns out he was never able to produce a title for a transfer or the loan. He went radio silent after saying that he was working on it (issues with “loan company” that he was working with. Now dealing with in court). After a few normal monthly payments I log in to my lenders portal to see that my loan is paid off in full and is here by closed. Now the dealer no longer seems to have an active lot and does not seem keen on returning my monthly payments (mailed to his office in a check payable to me) or my down payment if I return the truck. I was able to find some articles online but nothing definitive about the situation. Is he legally required to remedy the situation with my payments and down payment or will I be forced into a new loan with this same vehicle? I have put about 9,000-10,000 miles on the truck and the seats are a little dirty. Nothing that a detailing can’t clean but other than that it’s like I got it.
