Debt Collector Keeps Taping Notices To My Door For Someone Else’s Debt
Location: Texas
Recently purchased a new home and have been getting debt collection notices taped to my front door every other month that are not post marked or have any sort of return address. I opened one of these letters to see what it was in regards to and to see if their was some kind of number I could call to get these to stop being taped to my door with duct tape as it is stripping the varnish from the door. The letters seem to be in regard to a debt collection from a previous owner of the house but not the one I purchased the home from. I found a number online for the company that was sending these notices and called them to inform them that the individual no longer lives at the address and would like these notices to stop being taped to the door but everyone I have spoke to has refused to update the address and told me the only way for these notices to stop being taped to my door would be to have the account number and social security number of the debtor to change the address on the account or have the debtor reach out to the debt collection agency to resolve the issue. I have called three separate times and informed them that this clearly violates the US FDCPA but they have given the exact same response every time. I have notified them that if another person arrives on my property to tape something to my door that I will be calling the police to file a trespassing charges.
Is there anything else that can legally be done to get these people to stop harassing me for something I cannot give them?
