Delta Airlines Broke My Laptop - Anything I Can Do?

Card image cap

TLDR: I made a mistake, left new laptop on plane, came back same night, no one would check the plane (I know it was on there and where it was), 6 weeks later it comes back cracked and bent. Details below: Location: WA, USA

I had just bought a brand new and brought it with me on a flight Washington to California.

On the way back from California to Washington I left my laptop on the airplane, this was my mistake. Within an hour I realized I had left it on the airplane.

I drove back to the airport and asked if anyone could retrieve it. I spoke to as many people as I could (baggage, lost and found, airport security). Everyone said that there was no way to check the airplane, or speak with the flight attendants...it really felt like I was just being brushed off.

After an additional couple of hours at the airport and filing a report with Delta and the airport I Didn't hear anything for several weeks.

I finally got a response that they found screen was cracked. It was in a case an reasonably protected in a case. But when I received it in the mail it was beyond cracked.

The whole laptop was bent, and it looks as if they stuffed too many things inside of a massive shipping container/truck and the weight of something heavier slammed against the side with enough force to not only crack the screen, but bow the laptop frame upward.

I'm positive it got damaged getting sent back to a holding center and then shipped back to me. It just feels it wasn't handled with care, and if had tried to do anything at all it probably would have not have ended up that way.

I understand I likely can't bring them to court, but is there any recourse that you could think of?
