Did I Screw Myself? Roped Into Pi Lawyer After Car Accident.

Card image cap

I (27F - Location: Wisconsin) was in a car accident Tuesday afternoon where the driver pulled out in front of me and I had no time to stop. The police report deemed the other driver at fault 100%. I did have some back and neck soreness, but xrays at the ER showed everything was okay and a few days later all of the sorness has subsidied.

I was then contacted by the other party's insurance to get things into motion and to take my statement. I have never been in a situation like this, and In all of my naivety I was contacted by a personal injury law firm right afterward for a consultation which ended in me signing digital documents granting them power of attorney for my injury payout.

I was really confused and foolish, I know, but I didn't realize what I did until I received followup calls saying I need to see another doctor even though I was cleared by the ER, and one from the lawyer themselves.

Like I'm not trying to get 100k I just want my ER bill, car, and tow bill paid and move on. Something I believe I can do on my own.

Can I just blow them off and settle without them, or did I just bond myself in a contract where they must get a cut of my settlement regardless. Do I need to contact them to terminate the contract or is that going to be like canceling Spectrum Internet?

Thanks for any help!
