Do I Need A Lawyer For A Car Crash?

Card image cap

Hello, dear reddit. I, 27f, was in a car crash recently and it's my very first one. I was not found at fault in this crash but I'm having a hard time with insurance right now. To give context, an old man turned in front of me to go into his driveway. If he had waited a few seconds, the road behind me was clear giving him more than enough room. Unfortunately, he was impatient and turned in front of my car, 2006 Ford Focus, over 200 thousand miles, so very old but extremely durable. I hit his passenger side rear axel of his truck with my passenger side front bumper. Took out his axel entirely of his Toyota Tacoma 2023. I only had five dents, a busted air bag, and a little dent on the hood from the force. I was showing signs of having whiplash and a concussion. What I want to know is, do I need a lawyer, considering I went to the hospital, spinal doctor, and missed 2 weeks of work, plus lost my only car to get me to work. Will I be better off with a lawyer to handle the claim, or would it be wise to do it by myself? My mom doesn't want a lawyer, but I want to get paid fairly and get a car ASAP. Location: NC in Greensboro. I'll answer questions if anyone has any.
