Doordash Sold Alcohol To Minor (14 Years Old) On Seperate Occasions With Different Drivers

Location: California (Los Angeles)

I'm asking this on behalf of a buddy of mine and his 14 year old daughter. He has some serious health issues that he's dealing with.

Late last year my buddy gave his daughter access to his doordash account to buy food mostly while shes with her mom (they are seperated). He's been dealing with medical issues so doesnt really check to see what was ordered until recently. He figured she can only buy food. He was wrong.

She had been bought alcohol on 2 seperate occasions on doordash with her dad's ID. The driver scanned the ID and they gave her the alcohol. She doesnt remotely look over 21, let alone like a 45 year old bald guy. The most disturbing thing is that she had also been buying excessive bottles of Benadryl to get high. She OD'ed on the Benadryl and wound up in the hospital (didnt even know this was a thing?). It took her a week to come out of a coma.

He just recently told me all of this. I'm clueless to what the law is here. I assume that the Benadryl is legally tough because its OTC and no federal limits to how much you can buy, but its still really troubling that kids are buying this stuff to get high and no regulation is stopping them.

My questions would be: would he have a case here? The alcohol part by itself at least right? I wouldnt know where the blame falls (driver? doordash? the liquor store where it was purchased? my buddy? a combination of all of these?). What type of lawyer would he talk to?

Thanks.
