Elderly Dad Suddenly Needs 24hr Care. Has Some Funds To Cover Costs By We (family) Can Not Access It.
Location: Charlotte, NC.
My elderly dad had a fall last week and he's currently in the hospital. The social worker at the hospital will not discharge him if we can't make arrangements for 24hr nursing/home aide or assisted living.
The problem is that both of these options are extremely expensive (thousands of dollars per month) and 100% out of pocket (not covered by insurance).
We were told by the social worker to apply for Medicaid but dad's monthly income, savings, and life insurance policies make him ineligible.
We did find 1 assisted living facility that he could possibly afford but they want payment upfront which we (my husband and I don't have.)
Dad has some savings but we don't have access to it. Should we go the legal route and try to gain access through the courts? Should be contact the bank and explain the situation?
Dad was independent before his hospital stay but since he's been in the hospital, he's confused and has short term memory loss.
We're not sure what to do next.
Thanks to your replies in advance.
