Employer Demands Unpaid Wait Time From "full-time" Field Techs

Location: Colorado

3 months ago, I hired as a "full time" field technician with a local company. However, the way they pay/don't pay hours is deceptive, and I need to know if there is a violation.

They do same-day jobs for construction clients. But if there isn't any work, I'm expected to remain on call, ready to go, but not paid.

For example, this Monday, I had to wait all morning to be told at 12:30 "you're free to go, there's no work today." I got paid $0 that day. That's THEIR time because if something comes, I'm expected to go right away, but I didn't get anything.

They also have me "take a 30 minute lunch," even on days when I start late (like today), disguised as unpaid wait time for a future job. I started at 10:40, finished the job by 2:30, ashed if any new jobs were pending. They said no, and I had to "take a lunch and check back in," when I'm on obviously in the field and their just waiting for last minute jobs.

Some of the other employees feel hassled to eat + drive to the next job, meaning punching out but the company still uses their time. They kept reminding me to clock out "take lunch" but not giving me actual time off. My sup advised me on the benefits of smoothies on the move lol. I refused, would write "drove all day, had no time for lunch" on my timesheet if I couldn't stop and eat. I forced the issue at one point, and they decided to properly schedule lunch times for me.

I spent close to the number of hours waiting for $0 as I did working this week. This is an absurd arrangement, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal. I'm going to write a complaint to my supervisors on Monday, but I would love to know if this is worth reporting formally?

Thanks.
