Employer Lied About Job
Location: Ohio
My husband has an offer letter from his current job that stated the hours were 12pm-12am. He accepted the job in these terms. HR even told him that the hours would be closer to 1pm-11:30pm. It’s a logistics job so understandably long hours, non union.
3 days into the job and they’ve had him working from 3pm-2am and today even have him doing 5pm-5am. It’s seeming like they’re going to want him to work 5pm-5am on a regular basis. This is not what he agreed to in taking the job, and absolutely does not work for our family (not that this background is even needed, but we have an almost 1 year old at home, and currently my husband spends the morning with him and takes him to daycare around 10:30-11am, and that works for us. if I have to start taking him to daycare super early before I go to work, my husband will still be asleep and only get to see our child a grand total of 3 days a week).
I guess I’m wondering whether we have any rights here as he accepted an offer and that is not what he’s being given. He will start looking for another job but it’s hard in the current job market. Are companies allowed to advertise jobs at a favorable schedule and then once you quit your previous job and start there, tell you that was never going to be your schedule?
