Father Is Falling For Romance Scams - Possible Dementia
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
My father has fallen victim to romance scams twice now in the two weeks. He has sent gift cards and PayPal payments to "his girlfriend" on Instagram and the Telegraph app.
We suspect that he has dementia and we aren't sure how to go about this. He had a stroke about 4 years ago and has never been the same. He suffers from a lot of ailments that line up directly with Lewey Body Syndrome. We have been trying to contact his doctor for over a week to get help but they refuse to call us back. We have tried to get access to his bank accounts to stop this/report the fraud but it's a slow process.
This morning we called Adult Protective Services and they are going to schedule a house visit but we are worried nothing will come of it since unless you knew him you wouldn't notice the change in behavior. He has fallen numerous times as well.
Is there anything we can do to speed up the process? Stop him from giving his lifes savings away. He has about 1.5 million in the bank. Some of it is in a trust.
I am just at a loss on really what to do and make sure it sticks. He lives alone and I am the only local sibling. I am too afraid to make him go to the emergency room as he may try to fight me on.
