Fedex "threw Away" My Life's Belongings With No Documentation

Card image cap

Location: NC, USA.

Shipped a package with important personal items from Chicago to NC with FedEx. Properly packed, properly secured.

Package arrived into a local NC FedEx facility, then, according to an employee, was "marked as damaged and thrown away" with no documentation.

❕I have a recording of a phone call where the employee admits they made a mistake and did not follow the protocol of creating documentation and taking three photos of the items/box before throwing it away.

One of the items has since appeared in the "donation" box of the local facility. The rest of them - thrown away, taken by employees, sold, who knows.

  1. Do I have a case? 2 Do I have a case that's worth more than the literal monetary value of the items since a lot of them were unique and personally significant?
  2. Would it matter if the package was shipped through a third party label maker such as Lugless?

Thanks, everybody.

P.S: I'd like to avoid the "your fault for not using the right box /not taping it properly" comments. It was the right box, and it was secured correctly.

P. S. 2- if it matters, as soon as the package got marked as delayed I called the local facility that admitted having the package and "processing it", and specifically asked it not to be thrown away - their reply was to "call them in a few days for an update".
