Fired Vs Laid Off?
I was recently texted by my employer that they were “dissolving all per diem positions” and that they wanted me to acknowledge that I was quitting. I was kind of taken aback because: 1. I have not picked up any shifts in months and 2. They have not offered me any shifts in months. I was then informed I was fired, as I did not respond while trying to figure out what the best move forward would be. I had worked for them for 2 years as a full time employee, with no violations and only positive reviews, and then when I decided to go back to school dropped from full time to per diem. They also informed me that they would have to inform any potential employers that I have them listed as a reference as, that I was fired.
My question is: wasn’t I laid off? And should I get them to clarify that? If all per diem positions were eliminated, and I was not given any reasons as to why I was “fired” it feels like a big jump. Please help.
