Friend Is Trying To Leave Her Ex

I have a friend who is getting a bit desperate. She is trying to get away from ex. He is unemployed, an alcoholic, and extremely verbally, financially and emotionally abusive. He also has hit her and pushed her on two occasions in the past.

My friend has four children, two of them are severely autistic and the two other younger children are 3 and 2. She stays home to take care of the kids. She collects Child benefit and that is how she pays all of the bills.

She owns her home with a private mortgage and the house is only in her name. Her ex lives in a trailer on the property but they are NOT together. He does not contribute in any way what so ever. He doesnt pay a dime. Doesnt watch the kids or even talk to them.

He enters the house often and takes food or uses the bathroom at all hours of the night and always makes it a huge ordeal.

She wants him gone but is afraid he’s going to pull the parental right card or common law card. She has also considered moving to get away from him but her mortgage renews in December, she is in the middle of doing home Reno’s (all by herself) and she doesn’t think she would qualify for another mortgage because of her income situation. Basically she needs to finish the Reno’s and hope she can make enough off the sale of her home to buy something else far away.

I am not sure how these things really work but I really want to help her out. She does everything for those kids including homeschooling and im just watching her slowly fade away. Im afraid for her. Where is the best place to start?

She has had a peace bond against him in the past and he just broke down the door and the cops did nothing about it.

Where should she start to get him at least out of her yard, legally of course?
