Girlfriend's Ex-roommate's Parents Suing Her $10k For "borrowing Rent Money She Never Asked Or Received"

We need advice on this because they're now threating to gauge her pay to pay the $10k back that she allegedly borrowed and we don't know if its real or if they have any grounds to do so.

for more context she rented with her for about a year and apparently her roommate asked her parents for rent money for my girlfriend without asking her or letting her know. now currently gf and me live together and she got a message from old roommate that she already apparently got sued in small claim court and cause she didn't show up it defaulted. and like title said they're are threating debt collectors and or gauging her checks. Girl friend also never received any court documentation or any communication from court but we still would like to see if there is any way to confirm that this case even exist and if it does what could we do. Thanks

Edit: First I want to thank everyone for the help. I looked into the case see if it even existed and it does. The documents show that ex-roommate served my gf and so the case defaulted when my gf didn’t show up.

Second yes she paid her part of the rent and she’s getting sued directly from the roommate’s parents not the roomates herself

Third my gf never received anything, not from roommate or the court itself about the case

So yeah we’re just loss at what to do. We’re going to try to see an attorney but it’ll be hard because we’re tight on cash rn because of personal reasons.
