Hello, we live in NC. my 16 yr old daughter is currently working her first job at McDonald’s and everything has been going well. Until she received her most recent paycheck to find $45 deducted. They claim it’s because her register came up short.

Here’s the back story, a week or two prior she was ending her shift because we were there to pick her up. Her supervisor at the time gave her the go-ahead to leave and that he would count out her register. She said ok and left. She continued working her shifts for the next couple of weeks as normal. When she gets her check she finds it’s deducted $45. No conversation about it prior, no investigation, no coaching opportunities, nothing. My daughter didn’t take it. Something about this just feels fishy as hell. I believe the supervisor may have pocketed the cash (I believe he’s in his late teens-early twenties). Why didn’t anyone say anything? Why wasn’t there an investigation?

If anyone could offer any insight on the legality of this ot would greatly appreciated as I wouldn’t think this would be company policy. Especially without notice or investigation.
