How Do We Get Them Out Of Inherited Home?
Location: Oklahoma
So quite a few years back, my FIL inherited a small home in OK from his father. His father, we’ll call him “Grandpa”, was married and divorced multiple times. Upon his death, even though the house was bequeathed to my FIL, Grandpa allowed his last wife’s grandchildren to live in the house. These “grandchildren” are not blood related to Grandpa.
The occupants of the house do not pay any rent. My FIL continues to pay property taxes and pays for maintenance and anything else the house needs.
He does not want this house, and will never live back in OK. (We are on the West Coast). The reason why I even care is because eventually my husband will inherit this house and I don’t want him to have the financial burden of a property we can neither live in nor sell.
My FIL hasn’t pursued anything bc he’s had some other really big priorities the past few years and just doesn’t have the time or energy to research how to get out of this situation. Where do we even start?
