I Had A Dui In Texas Over 15 Years Ago And Now I Can’t Get My License Renewed In Sc.

Location: South Carolina

I got a dui (yes I was an idiot) in bell county Texas about 15 years ago. I paid a huge fine and was told by my lawyer that’s all I needed to do because I was leaving Texas for good right after that.

I then moved to Georgia and got my drivers license there. Renewed it 2 or 3 times in Georgia as well. I’ve since married and moved to South Carolina.

It was time for me to get a SC drivers license and I was informed I was not allowed to get one because of an issue in Texas. The SC DMV gave me a number to call in Texas to figure out why. I called it and they said I was required to put on an Ignition Interlock Device 15 years ago.

Apparently Georgia doesn’t give or get info from Texas and that’s why I was allowed to continue getting a drivers license. SC does. I didn’t know any of this.

The lady i talked to from Texas told me I could get a judge to sign something that releases me from needing to get the device because it’s been such a long time ago and I havnt been in any trouble since then.

However, I can’t get in touch with anyone in bell county Texas that can help me get in touch with a judge or even tell me what I need to do in order to get this clear.

No one in SC has been helpful either. They just tell me I need to get in touch with people in Texas to get it clear.

I really just don’t know what to do at this point. I’ve called 50-60 different phone numbers and am always given a different phone number to try. Same with emails.

I did get someone that was new to the office on the phone once and they asked me to email them about the situation and they would give it to the judge but I never heard back. They told me to check online in 6 months to see if it was cleared but I don’t know where to check.

Seriously guys and gals, I really need some help here. I’m a good person that screwed up a long time ago. I have a family now and just want to be able to continue to provide for them.

What can I do? Who can I hire?
