I Married A Married Man

I am 29 F. My husband is 33 M. We will call him Abe. Location: NE. Previous marriage was in TX.

Back story: We have been together since 2018. We got married September 13, 2025. We had a beautiful wedding. Everything I hoped for as a girl. I knew he was previously married the day I met him. They were both in the military and it ended quickly after she was found to be cheating.

Yesterday, I got a call from my sister who has occasional contact with Abe’s ex. We will call ex Becca. Becca was saying this was a very time sensitive matter that her and Abe are still married. Becca wanted to talk to me for reasons unknown. My sister thankfully did not allow this because she knows I am 9 weeks pregnant and potentially volatile. I didn’t think this was possible as I have signed, sealed, delivered papers that I am in fact married to Abe. Becca was claiming she was trying to change her name after 9 years.

I trust no one. Therefore, I ask a lot of questions. Why now? After we just got married? Did she know this whole time? How can the NE court let me get married to a married man? How the heck did this divorce not get finalized especially when both had benefits through the military? What if she is telling the truth? Why was she going to my sister about this? Sorry, this has been my constant stream of thought. And sadly, I get no true answers yet.

I ask Abe about this once I am home from work. He doesn’t have a clue how this can happen. He called the county they were in then for the divorce decree and sure enough there was no record they could find. Wtf. Today, I was able to have a productive conversation with Abe about this bomb that just went off. He thought he did everything right, he paid for the divorce and paid her debt which I believe was part of the divorce agreement. They both had JAG lawyers but it stayed out of court. They lost their housing benefits through this because of divorce..makes sense to me. If the military took away benefits that are more for a married couple then how the heck would they still be married to this day?

Abe’s conversation with Becca (through his words) She texted him asking if he filed for divorce. They got into a phone call she said I saw you got married. (Only I have photos of us on our wedding day on my facebook. I have not shared family photos yet. Therefore, no one else such as my sister have any of those photos.) Becca tells him they are in fact still married. He tells her he will contact his lawyer the following business day. She said she was going to do the same.

Nothing makes sense to me. Is my marriage void? Do I have to annul? Is it possible to back date these things? Can she take everything Abe and I have built over the past 7 years? I am lost.
