I Was Terminated 3 Days Ago With Zero Notice And My Employer Is Threatening To Take $30/day Out Of My Final Paycheck For Employee Housing If I Do Not Move Out By The End Of The Day.
Location: Orcas Island, WA, USA
Hello, I am a chef working on a small island in the Pacific Northwest and was terminated from my employment very abruptly by the chef by order of the management without any reason made clear to either of us 3 days ago 7/9.
I live in employee housing underneath the restaurant and since the termination there has been no communication from the owners at all until last night when they sent me a text saying that “the last 3 days are free but if you don’t move out by the EOD tomorrow (7/12)” we will charge you $30/day taken out of your final paycheck”.
I used to briefly practice real estate and I am well aware that this is illegal especially since there was no written or or verbal contract outlining the housing upon termination and I am well aware that this is absolutely not reasonable notice to vacate.
I plan to be completely out in the next several days but how do I keep my now former employer from deducting that money from my final paycheck and who would be the best to contact regarding this issue?
Thank you all for giving the time to read this and please feel free to ask any questions.
