Is This An Unusual Landlord Request?
Location: New York City
Good Afternoon. Me, my mom and my sibling have been living in a unit in an apartment complex (150 units) in NYC for over 25+ years. A few weeks ago we sent in our lease renewal after the forms were sent to us by the building management.
This morning the building Super came to our door stating that the building management is "cracking down on illegal tenants" and they want copies of our Drivers Licenses or State ID's. This raised an eyebrow with me because what do mean by illegal tenants? We've all had correspondences (phone calls, emails, in person conversations, rent payments with our names on them etc.) with the old and new (2+ years old) management.
My mom immediately believed that this was underlying profiling due to our last names but I don't want to jump the gun.
Looking to get their request in letter writing or email form before submitting anything.
A part of me does believe this is unusual because of the supers wording so we are keeping our vigilance high. Your thoughts? Is this the right subreddit to ask?
