Lady Who Rear Ended Me And Attempted To Leave The Scene Is Now Claiming I Hit Her (nj, Usa)

Hello all, last week, I was rear ended while driving to work and the women who hit me attempted to flee the scene. I followed her for close to ten minutes, honking and signaling for her to pull over, about 5 minutes in to the “chase” I called the police and reported her license plate number as well as our location etc all while still chasing her down.

She eventually turned on to a backroad and pulled over and shortly afterward the police showed up. The police told me to pull to the side as well and they took both of our statements.

She claimed in the police report that I PURPOSELY slowed down to hit her and that she was not at fault. I told my side of the story and according to the police all they could do was file a report and let our insurance companies duke it out. I was very surprised that they pursue any charges even though it was clear she ran from the scene( we were several miles away from the accident when the police showed up).

Anyway today I got a notice from my insurance company that she filed a claim AGAINST me again claiming that I hit her. She also claimed that the accident happened on a completely different road that is miles away.

I am looking for advice on the best way to proceed with the process and if there is any legal recourse I have in this situation.
