Landlord Increasing Rent After Lease Already Signed
Location: Pennsylvania
So I am currently in the middle of a 12 month lease with an apartment agency. They sent me a message asking if I would like to renew my lease (starting in August) with the new monthly price listed as $50 lower than what I currently pay. I said yes, and then went in person to sign off on the lease agreement for the new rental price, which was also signed by 2 other people in the rental company. I have in writing the new monthly price and the lease term for Aug 2026- July 2027. The next day, they sent a message saying the price I signed off on is incorrect, and that it should actually be $100 more. I don’t see anywhere in my lease papers that mentions they can change the rate after it has already been agreed to. I think there is some law in Pennsylvania about landlords being allowed to increase rent whenever they want as long as there is ample notice given, but does this apply here? Or is the new price I signed on binding for the 12 month period?
