Landlord Is Demanding $3,000 For "carpet Replacement" Two Months After I Moved Out And Returned The Keys. Do They Have A Case?

I vacated my previous apartment on June 30th after a standard two-year lease. On the day I moved out, I took extensive timestamped photos and video of the entire unit, including all flooring. The carpet had minor wear around the entryways, but zero stains, burns, or pet damage.
During the final walkthrough, the property manager signed off on the move-out inspection sheet, noting "normal wear and tear" on the flooring. My $1,200 security deposit was returned to me in full via check about three weeks later.
Yesterday (September 12th), I received a certified letter from the landlord demanding $3,150 for full carpet replacement across the entire apartment. They claim that when the new tenant moved in last month, they discovered a "deep chemical odor" underneath the padding that required tearing out the subfloor.
They are threatening to send the debt to collections within 14 days if I don't pay.
Since they already inspected the unit, signed the move-out form, and returned my full security deposit weeks ago, can they legally hold me liable for damage allegedly discovered long after possession was surrendered?
