Landlord Trying To Keep My Money Is He Allowed Too?
Location: Pennsylvania
I signed a residential lease in PA on February 4, 2026. Due to a change in my work situation, I requested to terminate the lease early. On March 5th, 2026, the management company and I both signed a formal Early Lease Termination Agreement.
okay so this is what the Agreement said
March and April rent totaling $2,099.98 must be paid in full today.
The unit must be completely vacated by the end of the day tomorrow, March 6, 2026, with all personal belongings removed.
The unit must be left in clean condition, and all keys must be returned to management upon move-out.
Because you will be vacating the unit tomorrow, your last month's rent deposit will be applied toward the outstanding rent balance as permitted under the lease.
Your security deposit will be held and handled in accordance with Pennsylvania law and may be applied to any remaining unpaid rent, damages beyond normal wear and tear, cleaning costs, or other charges permitted under the lease. After move-out, the security deposit will be itemized and handled in accordance with Pennsylvania law.
Once payment is received and possession of the unit has been returned, you will be released from further obligations under the lease.
this is what they sent me now.
Following your move-out on March 10, 2026, a move-out inspection of the property was conducted in accordance with your lease agreement and applicable Pennsylvania law.
Security Deposit Paid: $1,150
Last Month's Rent Paid: $1,150
Itemized Application of Funds:
Unpaid Rent for Remaining Lease Term: $13,800
Less: Security Deposit Applied: ($1,150)
Less: Last Month's Rent Applied: ($1, 150)
Remaining Balance: $11,500
Pursuant to the Early Lease Termination Agreement, your last month's rent and security deposit have been applied toward the outstanding rent balance following your early move-out. Once payment was received and possession of the unit was returned, you were released from further obligations under the lease.
and under the original lease it did say I would lose my security deposit and last months rent for leaving the apartment early but they didn’t mention in the contract we signed does that supersed? Also I lived in the apartment for one week and they took 6000 from me that’s why I really want this money back it was super unfortunate what happened.
