Location: Va. Ex-employer Didn't Close Expense Account. Now I'm On The Hook For $2000.00...
Location: Virginia
Hello! I stoped working at Company "S" in October of 2025. I left because they offered me far less than the position initially stated, but that's not the point. I'm just being salty.
The real issue is that when I left, I destroyed my company credit card (CC Co.), per the manager's instructions and went on to better things... Until June of 2026 when CC Co sent me a letter saying that I owed them $2000.00. These fees were subscriptions annually charged to my company card. The subscriptions were needed to do my job, but since I hadn't worked there in 9 months, it should easily be resolved right?
I opened up an HR ticket with "S" and told them the issue. My ex-manager later texted me stating that since I no longer worked there when the charges were applied, they weren't considered business related and "S" would not pay for them. I was floored. Not only did my ex-manager forget to close my expense account with CC Co, but he then said I was responsible for paying the 2k!
Money is tight (for everybody, I would imagine) and 2k is not an expense that I can afford right now. I have tried contacting the companies that I had the subscriptions with and most of them say that since the charge is greater than 60 days old, they will not reimburse the charge. I've contacted CC Co to dispute the charges and they told me to have the Account Manager for "S" contact them to dispute the charges. I have asked HR to forward me "S" Account Manager info. Silence. Is there anything I can do?
EDIT 1: I have confirmed that the credit card is combined liability between me and Company "S".
