My Dad Passed And The Landlord Is Trying To Tell Me I’m Responsible For Rent/clearing His Stuff
My dad passed in July and he lived alone prior to his passing. My dad was the only person who lived in the apartment and was the only name on the lease. Not to mention- we didn’t have much of a relationship, but I am his next of kin and really his only family so I obviously became in charge of all the necessary post death tasks… For a week or two after his passing we went to his apartment to clear out a majority of things and now all that’s left is a couch and some miscellaneous pieces of small furniture (night stand,
Coffee table etc) His landlord had my phone number because I contacted him to inform him of my dads passing but now he keeps calling me to remind me to pay Augusts rent and to finish clearing out the apartment or else I’ll be “charged” for leaving furniture. I was informed of an eviction noticed placed on my dads door but now I’m just confused if this landlord is actually in a position to make me pay for my dads August rent & charge ME for leaving furniture.
