My Dog Passed Away Now Banfield Wants More Money
Location: Arizona
My dog recently passed away. I had her signed up for a Banfield preventative care plan since she was a puppy. She lived to be around 6.5 years old. I called to cancel my monthly plan with Banfield and was told that they want me to pay them an additional 8 months worth of monthly payments. To clarify we didn't know that she was sick. Her first symptom was a weak cough 3 weeks ago. Any xrays, testing, and medicine my dog received in the last 3 weeks was paid out of pocket. The plan was simply to cover vaccines, checkups, routine blood work, etc. Putting aside the fact that I paid them for 6.5 years of preventative care each month and they failed to get my dog to live past 7 with no documented health issues until the day we had to put her down. I feel that making me back an additional 8 months is beyond messed up. Had she passed away and I had paid more in monthly premiums than I had received in services covered under the plan, I would not be getting money back from them. In fact, I'm almost certain that there were years were the plan worked in their favor and they just took the money. It seems like a sick money grab at a terrible time for my family. Any advice here? I figure that somewhere in the terms of the service agreement they put some writing into their favor but it just really rubs me the wrong way. TIA!
