My Husband Abandoned Me & Now I'm Left Homeless

Hi guys, I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Location: North Carolina.

I was married for 12 years, completely dependent on my spouse. Over the course of the 12 years, he had financially, medically, and sexually abused me. I am disabled. I can’t work. I’ve been trying to get disability but as we all know that’s a huge process.

Anyway, in September I learned my spouse had not been paying any rent for the last 2 or so months. Landlords never told my mom and I (we are both on the lease with him) but told him. So we were evicted, we didn’t know we were being evicted. He knew, but he didn’t tell us. We didn’t now until the cops were at the door.

Having to pick and choose your life, your hobbies, your art, etc. It’s demoralizing. Its embarrassing.

The eviction is long and done, I don’t want help with that.

I want help knowing my next steps. He made sure that I had to depend on him, of course. He wouldn’t give me any money, so I had to use the flex (health card that pays for meds & appointments) to pay for food, so we could eat. So it was either food or medicine.

Then he abandoned me, my mom and I (and 5 animals) had to run away to stay in a hotel. The only reason we had money was because I begged online and was able to raise it. It was useless as they’d already evicted us.

We moved to Minnesota where we're still homeless because he lied about everything.

Now, he had pawned several expensive items under the guise of paying rent (knowing full well he wasn’t paying it). He did this so he could get the items out after he’d left us. Those items, an alienware laptop, a ps5, Switches, all of those are NOT in his name. The laptop and Switches are in my mother’s name and the PS5 is in MY name. The cops refuse to help us, says it’s a civil matter.
He’s locked me out of my flex card so I can’t pay for meds or appointments. He did this by claiming fraud on the card.

Hes also stolen my 3d printer & a family heirloom of a pre-civil war cauldron.

He’s ruined my life. We moved to Minisotta, just to get away because being around him would’ve traumatized me more.

He made sure my credit was ruined, never payed car insurnace, as all cars were in his name and my mom’s name, so car insurance is difficult to get.

I’d love some immediate compensation for this. We’re currently homeless, living out of a hotel that assistance has paid for while we try to find a place to live. My mom has a new job but it’s not enough.

I want some legal compensation for my life that he decided to ruin because he couldn’t tell me he wanted a divorce. I want to be able to afford meds and the like without trying to decide if I should go between that or being able to afford food.

I’m at a complete loss. I know it complicates things because we moved to MN.

I’ve contacted some legal help lawyers, but most say ‘we make too much’ when we’re still homeless and can’t find an apartment.

I know this is a jumbled mess and I apologize, I am frantic and I keep hitting road block after road block. I can answer any questions.
