Parents Want Me To Take Guardianship Of My Sibling For Benefits
I (20, living with my parents, financially dependent and struggling with my income) am concerned about a plan my parents are trying to convince me to participate in. They want me to have co-guardianship or temporary guardianship of my younger brother for this. They have had me removed me from their insurance plan for a while and want me to get my own under my name (still paid for by them) and list my brother as my dependent, so as a low-income individual with a dependent, my brother and I can receive insurance benefits and welfare benefits (SSI is what they said). This sounds like fraud (or just generally illegal) to me. Aside from my personal unwillingness to become a co-guardian, what are the potential legal drawbacks and/or consequences to this plan?
Location: Riverview, Florida (County of Hillsborough)
Edit: Just to clarify I do NOT intend on agreeing to this. Trying to find the specific reasons to show WHY I'm refusing them and what to expect if they try to pursue it.
