Police Adding An “admission” Report. North Carolina

Card image cap

So basically long story short, the police came to a relatives home whom I had been visiting and begin asking questions.

I immediately invoke the fifth amendment and request a lawyer. They ask if I’d like to speak with them I say no.

After arresting (both of us) they take me to the magistrates office and begin commenting about various things and I simply said “thanks”. That was literally the only thing I said. However the police put in the report that I admitted to the alleged crimes. Conveniently the body cam was off and there’s no footage from the magistrate’s office. So now it’s turned into a “he said, she said” scenario.

How can this even be legal. It’s honesty despicable. I even offered to take a lie detector test or subpoena the officer to take one but apparently that’s inadmissible in court.

How can it be that the police can say whatever they want, knowingly lie and there’s virtually no recourse to prove they are in fact lying.

My lawyer is encouraging me to plead guilty to something I am innocent of in exchange for avoiding a potential prison sentence but this is just enraging and disgusting.

Im honestly shocked this is allowed and I can’t help but wonder how many thousands of people end up pleading to some charge solely to avoid lengthy prison sentences even if they are innocent. It’s hard to imagine things like this happen in the so called greatest country in the world.
