Pregnancy Restrictions??
Location: Pennsylvania
I am currently a welder in a fabrication shop and 25 weeks pregnant. My job is very physically demanding and it’s taking a toll on me. Especially in the heat. I have been under some restrictions since 18 weeks pregnant, (no lifting over 30 pounds, no steps stools or ladders, hydration when needed & no welding over galvanized and coated materials) entering my third trimester I am looking to go for light duty, but honestly it’s not super realistic they can accommodate for that considering my line of work, I am going to ask my doctor to write me light duty/office work if they have a position that can be filled but that I need to be completely taken off the shop floor. I’m willing to go on short term disability for the remainder of my pregnancy if they cannot fit me into an office position but can they just lay me off and not offer me short term disability? Or does that have to be an option?? I’d prefer to take short term. I’m basically worried that instead of offering me short term, they will just lay me off because they can not accommodate??
