Property Management Company Offered Reletting Option And Added $3,956 Buyout Fee To My Rent

Location: Virginia

I gave a 60 day notice to vacate on July 19th, for September 17th, during my prior lease period. My new lease period began July 30th for 13 months.

After giving notice they informed me of a $3,956 Early Termination / Buyout fee. I inquired about all options regarding the early lease termination. I was confused on the verbiage as a whole in the lease. I provided a timeline below.

07/19: Gave 60-day notice

07/21-07/22: Apt states $3,956 buyout fee is due immediately to process notice. I email asking of other options for terminating with regards to my lease.

07/28: Apt explicitly emails two options:

- Option A: Buyout Fee ($3,956).

- Option B: Reletting Fee (1 month rent) + responsible for rent until re-rented or lease ends.

07/28: I reply choosing Option B (Reletting).

07/30: Apt replies: "Sounds wonderful! I will go ahead and upload this into our system..." (Adjusts final move-out date to Sept 30 due to lease timing).

08/01-08/02: $3,956 Buyout fee appears on my account. I email them inquiring and asking to remove so I can pay rent. (I cant separate amounts in their payment system)

08/03: Apt emails asking to re-confirm I want the reletting option. I reply confirming the option. (In the AM)

08/04: I notify Apt that the buyout fee is still on my account, blocking me from making my August rent payment. (In the PM, but they are still open)

08/04: Apt claiming Reletting (Section 11) only applies if I default or fail notice. They insist Reletting is "not an option" and demand the $3,956 Buyout (Section 4) with rent payment.

I took the liberty of combing through the lease to provide redacted (when applicable) screenshots of anything that seems useful.

What am I supposed to pay?

What are my actual options regarding vacating/reletting/buy-out?

Please help, I appreciate your time in advance.
I may not be able to respond as we are trying to actively figure this out, pack, prepare for back to school and go back to work after summer break.
