Property Management Keeps Shutting Off The Water With No Notice - Nyc
Location: New York City
To clarify my family owns our apartment and we aren’t renters. But our building’s utilities are controlled by property management. The buildings in our neighborhood were built around the Second World War and from the looks of it , it hasnt really undergone any major changes since. We’re also a lower/middle class neighborhood so I guess poor service isn’t an outlier here and more something to expect . The water gets shut off every now and then but they put a notice on the elevator walls usually. For the past couple of days there’s been a really bad heatwave and they’ve been randomly shutting off the water with no notice at all. Not just the kitchen, the bathroom too so we can’t shower or flush . It starts in the afternoon and only returns after midnight. It’s been really annoying because my parents are getting pretty old and are struggling with the heat. Once I got irritated and filed a 311 report a few months ago because although they did put up a notice, the outage went WAY past their estimated water return time and my family really needed to shower and use the bathroom. I then did a search in the NYC buildings department site and there’s been hundreds of violations and complaints on our building . What can I do?
