Retaliation After Sending A Cease & Desist Letter
Location: Wisconsin
I’ve been getting harassed, stalked, and cyberstalked for the better part of the past 2 years by someone. They took a break for a few months then started it back up again in March. At the beginning of June, I found their full name and address and mailed them one cease and desist letter asking them to stop the harassment, stalking, and cyberstalking, and that if the behavior continued, I would take legal action. I did not share this persons govt name with anyone and also only found (and since forgot) their address to send the certified mail to directly.
I am now facing retaliation for the letter, and the person along with their circles of friends/partners is claiming that my cease and desist letter is evidence of my stalking and harassing them. They are also stating that I am a safety risk to people in our small community and continue to call me dangerous publicly.
I am planning on speaking with a lawyer, my employee assistance program offers limited free consults with lawyers. To prepare for this consult, and to help my frazzled brain stay focused, what are good questions to ask during the consult? Should I provide proof of the stalking/harassment at that time? Are there any green/yellow/red flags I should be aware of during the consult? I have a few ideas of what the complaints would be, like defamation, stalking, and harassment.
