Seeking Advice On First Time Opening A Small Claims Case.

Card image cap

location: Texas I am a 29F and I recently got into a car accident where the other driver was at fault and t-boned me while I was turning left into a residential driveway. I have severe anxiety and im really bad about calling the police when any accident happens so I did not call the police or file a report with them. the other driver gave me all of their info including insurance, address, phone number, name, license plate. she even sent a text admitting fault and apologizing. however, after speaking with her insurance it turns out her policy was not active at the time of the accident. I unfortunately did not have full coverage, only liability and I cannot afford ANYTHING out of pocket right now. i got the estimate for repairs ($3,000) and I texted the other driver asking if her plan was to pay out of pocket as she did not have insurance. no response. ghosted. so looks like I now have to go to small claims. what can I expect from this? do you typically need a lawyer for small claims or do people just represent themselves? how long does it take for them to serve her and then schedule a court date? to me it seems like it'll be a pretty open and shut case considering as I said, she did admit fault in text message. if I win, how long does she have to give me the amount owed? any other advice is welcome
