Someone Left There Dog For Me To Watch For A Night And Then Disappeared For 5 Months Now He Wants To Claim It Back Can I Keep It Now?

(Location: Canada) So basically a couple months ago my friend asked me if this guy she knew could leave his dog at my place over night and I agreed because I didn’t want the dog to be trapped in a storage unit. He came over and left the dog and then I didn’t hear from him the next day and for the next months there was no answer from him at all. I’ve been paying for and taking care of this dog i bought him a bed and toys I really love this dog now.

Also it’s important to mention that he was dehydrated and malnourished when I first got him and he was very shy and skiddish the poor thing.

I saw him yesterday at a gathering with my friends and he asked me how the dog was and I told him the dog was good and said that I wasn’t going to give him back and he told me he was going to come back for him in a few more months (because he’s still basically homeless) and that if I didn’t give him back he would calls the cops

Can I keep this dog I think he basically belongs to me now and I’m also scared for his wellbeing being with that man he’s very agressive and strange. Can I call the cops on him if he tries to come to my house to take him?

Edit: I’m pretty sure he only wants if back to sell it for money but he’s like my baby now I’m scared if he sells him he won’t be safe
