Traffic Diversion Program Suspended My License Because Of A Spelling Error (new York State)
Location: New York State (not City) - I got a ticket for speeding in late 2019, probably Octoberish. I went to court and was told I could do a traffic diversion program where I take a course and send them the completed course and certificate from the company (you pay to take the course, about $250). I contacted the head of the traffic diversion program about what to do with the certificate because it was April 2020 and during peak COVID. He told me to send him an email with a picture of the certificate and he’d mark it as completed, so I did.
Two years later, in November of 2022, I applied to a job and was rejected because during the background check, it came up that my license had been suspended for 8 months. This is the first time I had heard about this so I went digging for answers and came to the traffic diversion program office. They claimed I did not complete the program. After arguing, I asked how they spelled my last name. This lead to me getting absolutely no notification that my license had even been suspended. They unsuspended my license and sent me an email stating they are at fault for all of this.
Fast forward to 2026 and the license suspension is showing up on all my background checks still. Not that my license is suspended, but that it was suspended. I have talked to them about this several times and they have done nothing about it. What are my options?
Edit: im not trying to sue anyone, im trying to get the suspension off my record. Stop assuming that im trying to lawyer up or get a bag.
