Us Company Overpaid Me But I Don't Live There Anymore
Location: Washington State, USA
I was born and raised in the United States. I worked for a large international company for the last few years.
Two months ago, I moved to Germany. I have no affiliation to the US company anymore. I quit when I moved.
Two weeks ago I received a full paycheck into my US account. An obvious mistake as I was not employed and should not have been paid. The local HR rep there told me they can't do anything about it since paychecks are handled by a regional corporate team, not the local team. I have contacted the regional multiple times with no response.
My problem is that because I no longer maintain a US address, my US bank wants to close my account. Not usually a problem except The only money in this account is this incorrect paycheck. If I transfer it to EUR, I would have no easy way to pay it back. It would be a complicated mess and I would lose money both ways on exchange fees.
My question is, what do I do with this money? To keep it is legally theft I would assume. I have been trying to give it back for two weeks and do not want to lose money paying transfer fees
