Used Car Purchase Title Issue I Will Not Be Able To Drive Car In 30 Days. Location: United States
Location: IL I recently bought a used truck from a Ford dealership. The dealership has failed to process the title paperwork for the vehicle so that I can license the vehicle. They claim that the bank holding the title has improperly filed title work to the state and they have repeatedly asked them to correct the issue and send the paperwork properly to the state. I am now on my second set of temp tags 5 months into this and the temp tag will expire in the next month. I have attempted to contact both the bank in question to resolve the matter but as I am not the title holder (because they have not sent the paperwork to the dealership to transfer it to me) they can not discuss this with me HIPA rules, and I have discussed the issue with the dealer and the state DMV. As I do not have the title transferred to me yet I appear to have very little actual authority to fix this issue even though I am legally obligated to this purchase and payments and have made a 50% down payment. I am looking for advice as in roughly 30 days I will not be able to legally drive the vehicle as I will not be able to get license plates. What is my legal course of action?
