Valvoline Ruined Engine
Location: St. Louis, Mo (county)
I have a 2024 VW Tiguan with 38k miles. I took it to a Valvoline three days ago to have an oil change. Within minutes after leaving the shop, a few blocks from my house my low oil light and engine light came on and my car started grinding. Notification on my dashboard also said to stop driving the car now. I pulled over blocks from my home, got out and saw oil all under my vehicle. I drove another vehicle up to the shop and told the manager. He offered after hours to go to my vehicle and put a new oil filter and oil in it. I told him I did not want him touching it to destroy the evidence in case my engine is ruined. Next day I had my vehicle towed to my dealership.
After engine diagnostics it was found that an O-ring was put in incorrectly and as a result was cut in half causing oil to leak out all over the vehicle. When they checked my vehicle it had no oil and it whatsoever and now the engine is burnt up. Total estimated cost of $7k to fix. I’ve already submitted a claim with Valvoline but today’s day three without a car. I’m still waiting to hear back from them and a response for moving forward. My questions are:
If they won’t pay to replace the engine what are my next steps?
Since the car is pretty new, how do I factor in loss in value because I will take a hit on Carfax when I trade it in?
What else should I consider?
Thanks in advance. This has been a nightmare.
