Work Place Mistreatment

Card image cap

Location: Kansas

Hi all! First off, I wasn’t sure which tag to use as none of them seem to pertain to this particular situation. I apologize for that.

The story: lately my supervisor has been yelling, sometimes screaming, and cussing at employees. This is not a one-off occurrence and happens multiple times throughout the year. The supervisor in question has admitted to me that they have anger issues but will not get help. I know Kansas is a “one-party” consent state. Well, to protect myself and my co-workers, I have been recording these interactions when they get bad. I have been to HR twice now with the complaints. Other people have also gone to HR multiple times with complaints. One individual is facing what I consider to be borderline retaliation due to an HR visit we made together. People have quit due to supervisors behavior. However, I have been holding back the recordings for fear and would like some advice.

While Kansas is a “one-party” consent state and I am speaking in every recording, the company policy states: “Audio Recording Devices. The use of… audio…devices within the [company] is prohibited without the express prior permission of the [upper management] or his or her assigned designee(s), and of the person(s) present at the time. This prohibition is specifically applicable to offices, restrooms, and locker rooms.” (There are some omissions to protect anonymity but the message remains the same).

I would like to provide HR with these recordings so they would understand how bad it is but I would like to do that without risking my job. There is way more to the story but, at this point, I am terrified of my supervisor and would like to protect myself, even here on Reddit. I am afraid nothing will happen until physical assault occurs, which has come close one, at least, one occasion.

I would really like some advice. Could my job be in jeopardy? Should I provide them so they understand the treatment of employees?

I appreciate your time.
