Workplace Never Asked For Alcohol License
location: california
apologies for any mistakes, ive never posted to reddit before. and hopefully is isnt too complex. i started working at this restaurant many months ago, this is my first long term job and i was hired on the spot. barely any questions were asked about me or my resume. i didnt think much of it until recently i was ticketed with selling alcohol to minors on accident. i dont know how to read ids well and let them purchase alcohol. they were plants and i got in trouble. it wasnt until after this situation my friend asked me if i had my rbs/abc training and i had no idea what that was. i then find out mine and many others in my workplace also dont have this training and including food handlers. i received calls from my manager and boss telling me once i go to my court date, that i need to tell the judge that i made a mistake and not to tell the judge i dont know how to read ids because it would "make things harder for me". i know im guilty to selling the drinks to the minors even if it was a mistake. but my two questions are: will my workplace be at fault as well? the way they handled the situation has me feeling taken advantage of. and second, ive never been in trouble with the law before, is this really bad for my record? ive been losing sleep over it so advice i can get is appreciated! thank you
