Innovafeed & Protix Publish Position Paper On Industrial-scale Insect Protein
(PRESS RELEASE) “When Scale Lowers Carbon: A Perspective on Industrial-Scale Insect Protein,” a new joint position paper from Innovafeed and Protix, brings together peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment data and figures published in the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI) database to explore how the environmental performance of insect protein evolves as the industry moves from pilot projects to industrial scale.
What makes this initiative particularly interesting is that two commercial competitors have chosen to work together on a topic that goes beyond their individual businesses: how to strengthen the evidence base around insect ingredients and better understand what industrial scale can contribute to more sustainable animal nutrition.
The paper looks at the role of scale, industrial integration, feedstock and energy efficiency, while also discussing why assessing an ingredient solely through its individual carbon footprint may not capture its full value within food production systems.
