NASC’s origin story For 25 years, the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) has helped protect and shape the animal health supplement industry. Founded in 2001, NASC was created due to the category facing the real risk of elimination. A small group of responsible companies came together to take a proactive approach, creating quality standards, establishing adverse event reporting, and working with regulators to demonstrate that the industry can operate responsibly and protect animal health. The result is a trusted framework that has preserved market access and strengthened confidence in animal health supplements.
What sets NASC apart? What sets NASC apart is its proactive, co-regulatory approach and the depth of its quality system. It wasn’t created to promote products. It was created to protect the category by increasing transparency, reducing risk, and creating consistency across the market. NASC member companies are responsible suppliers dedicated to quality and transparency. Members must pass a rigorous third-party audit and maintain ongoing compliance to use the NASC Quality Seal—it can’t be bought.
What’s on the horizon for NASC? The new NASC Treat Program brings trusted oversight to a fast-growing category. Built on the same standards and framework followed by supplement companies, the program helps ensure treat products are made and marketed responsibly and in alignment with regulatory expectations. For retailers, that means greater confidence in the products you stock and recommend. The yellow Quality Seal offers a credible, recognized way to identify companies committed to transparency, consistency, and continuous improvement. As the seal begins appearing on treats, it provides a simple tool to help guide purchasing decisions, reduce risk, and build trust with your customers at the shelf.
How does NASC support retailers? NASC supports retailers by helping them stock and sell with confidence in a complex regulatory environment. The NASC Quality Seal identifies products from audited companies that meet rigorous quality and compliance standards. This creates consistency across brands, creating a more level playing field and making it easier to compare products. Stocking NASC Quality Seal supplements ad treats supports credibility, repeat business, and informed recommendations.
The new NASC Treat Program brings credibility and trust to the treat aisle.
