Andrew Cuomo Buys $7.4m Hamptons Manse

NEW YORK — Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo purchased a palatial $7.4 million home on Long Island earlier this year through a limited liability company, according to two people with knowledge of the transaction.

The home, set on a private 4-acre lot in Southampton, was purchased in June — a year after he was defeated by Zohran Mamdani for the Democratic mayoral nomination in New York City. Property records filed with the Suffolk County Clerk’s Office indicate the property was acquired by a limited liability company. It was purchased without any mortgage on file as of early this month, suggesting the deal was made in cash.

The former governor purchased four lots with two homes on it that he believes will be an investment property, according to a person close to the governor. He also maintains an apartment in Manhattan.

Cuomo resigned five years ago amid criticism of his handling of the Covid pandemic and a barrage of sexual harassment allegations that he denies. His attempted comeback bid to become Gotham’s mayor was thwarted by Mamdani, a democratic socialist whose victory over the former governor stunned New York’s political world.

A Queens native, Cuomo’s more recent ties to the city were tenuous as he ran to lead it. He previously lived in Westchester County for part of his gubernatorial tenure, sharing a home with his partner, Sandra Lee. After their relationship ended, Cuomo lived in the governor’s mansion in Albany.

During his mayoral run, Cuomo lived in the Sutton Place section of Manhattan, in an apartment previously occupied by his daughter.

Out of office, the former governor has found lucrative work that may have helped him afford what a realtor’s listing described as “a one-of-a-kind estate.”

Cuomo joined the advisory board of Nano Nuclear in March 2024. The advanced nuclear technology company reported paying him more than $2.6 million in stock options. In June, it was announced that Cuomo would co-chair a joint venture between a cryptocurrency firm and the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.

These private sector jobs are a change for the former governor, who has spent most of his adult life in either elected or appointed office at the state and federal level. But he has been in proximity to wealth: His former wife is Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy and sister of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

In his 2014 memoir All Things Possible, Cuomo described a trip to the Kennedy compound on Cape Cod, bringing along a multicolored bathing suit, which he called “Saturday Night Fever meets Hyannis Port.”

Indeed, the sumptuous Long Island property he’s purchased has Kennedy-esque touches including a tennis court and swimming pool as well as a private dock with boathouse, according to an online listing. A lush, backyard stretches from the patio to the water. There’s a wine cellar and poolhouse with a sauna.

Cuomo, a frequent angler and an unabashed auto enthusiast, also owns a 5-car garage.

Cuomo has not publicly ruled out a return to elected office after losing to Mamdani, first in the Democratic primary and then in the November general election as an independent candidate. He’s been critical of his party’s leftward lurch in media appearances.
