It’s Official: All Of The Epstein, Maxwell Secret Grand Jury Docs Will Now Be Released
NEW YORK — A federal judge on Wednesday approved the Justice Department’s request to unseal grand jury material in the case of Jeffrey Epstein, in light of the new law requiring the department to disclose nearly all of the investigative records into the late disgraced financier.
In a four-page order, U.S. District Judge Richard Berman, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, wrote that the new law “supersedes” existing regulations requiring grand jury material to be kept secret.
His ruling comes after two federal judges have ordered grand jury documents concerning Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, his co-conspirator and a convicted sex trafficker, to be made public.
The grand jury material will add to thehundreds of thousands of pages of Epstein-related documents expected to be released by the Justice Department, but it is unlikely to disclose much new information about the sex trafficking ring allegedly operated by Epstein because, judges have said, the material is limited in scope.
As with the other judges who approved the unsealing requests, Berman expressed concern about protecting the identities of the victims during the disclosure, writing that “clearly victims’ safety and privacy are paramount.”
