Judge Extends Block On Trump’s ‘anti-weaponization Fund’

A federal judge has extended a block on President Donald Trump’s “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” but signaled she will drop the matter if the administration more definitively disavows the project.

At a hearing Friday in Alexandria, Virginia, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema rejected the Justice Department’s arguments that a lawsuit challenging the fund became moot after acting Attorney General Todd Blanche declared at a House hearing last week that the controversial plan is “not moving forward.”

Brinkema said Trump’s recent comments in favor of the idea raised doubts about the finality of the decision to abandon the project, which was intended to compensate victims of allegedly politicized investigations and prosecutions under previous administrations.

However, the judge — a Clinton appointee — said she’d likely dismiss the challenge before her if acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent file declarations under penalty of perjury in the next week saying that the fund has been abandoned.
